No one knew we'd halt school. In 2019-2020, Library Media Specialists across the district collaborated in submitting an epic grant to expand titles in their digital library. This project supported district goals to encourage students to explore new genres, to make reading more accessible, and to offer quick access from anywhere at any time. This grant nearly doubled the available titles and meet an unexpected need to engage students even while they were sheltered at home.
Monetary donations from our community make initiatives like this possible. Executive Director, Lori Villarreal claims, "Everyone involved - donors, advocates, administrators, educators - this success belongs to all of us." Year-after-year the Foundation raises money to fund ideas that continue to encourage our educators to explore new ways to engage students. Villarreal believes, "Wylie ISD has clearly transitioned from traditional classroom learning to online in-home classrooms more smoothly than many of our 'like' districts. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a direct result of our culture where educators are encouraged to dream big and do big for the sake of their students."
Wylie ISD Education Foundation's works to enhance education by inspiring volunteer leadership and community giving to fund Grants for Teachers and Scholarships For Seniors. This year we will award $100,000 to support the creative solutions of our educators. A donation today helps us ehnance education.
