Wylie ISD Theater Hosts Annual Summer on Stage Camp
Wylie High School and Wylie East High School’s theater departments hosted Summer on Stage and Summer on Stage junior this past week.
Elementary students in third through sixth grades were invited to participate in Summer on Stage Junior. These junior campers attended early morning sessions, followed by the high schoolers. This theatrical enrichment program was filled with workshops on property construction, mask work, stage combat, auditioning, IMPROV and much more. Student technicians shared their talent and vision while working on experimental and devised theatrical camp productions. Their props were on display throughout the performances.
Sophomores, juniors and seniors performed “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind,” followed by seventh through ninth graders performing “And the Crowd Goes Wyld!” in front of their friends and family in the Wylie East auditorium June 4.
“This year's Summer on Stage was the biggest and best we’ve ever had,” Polly Harrison, Wylie High School’s director of theatre said. “I’m very proud of the students, workshop leaders, directors and interns and can’t wait until next year.”
In only its sixth year, both versions of Wylie ISD’s theatrical summer enrichment programs, Summer on Stage Junior and Summer on Stage, sold out with over 190 students and college interns working together to learn and prepare productions.
“Wylie ISD Summer on Stage’s four productions stretched the campers’ creativity and entertained hundreds of audience members,” Glenn Lambert, Wylie ISD director of fine arts said. “This wrapped up a packed week of workshops.”
