Wylie ISD Announces 2024 National Merit Commended Students

9/29/2023

Congratulations to our 2024 National Merit Commended StudentsWylie ISD is proud to announce and recognize the 25 high school seniors who have been named a National Merit Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) competition.

Students are entered into the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which typically occurs in the fall of their junior year. The preliminary test serves as an initial screen of program entrants, and the PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores determine the 50,000 high-scoring participants who qualify for program recognition. Of those 50,000 students, approximately 34,000 are named commended students.

In late September, those students receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise. Commended students are named based on a nationally applied Selection Index score that may vary from year-to-year and is typically below the level required for participants to be named Semifinalists in their respective states. Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

Congratulations to these 25 Wylie ISD National Merit Commended students! We are so proud of you!
