Joey Welborn Selected as Assistant Director for Early Education Services
5/10/2023Wylie ISD is proud to announce that Joey Welborn has been appointed as the new Assistant Director for Early Education Services.
This newly developed position was created to address the district’s growing Pre-Kindergarten enrollment and the state’s mandate of school districts to offer full-day Pre-K. In his role, Welborn will ensure compliance, facilitate and oversee Pre-K registration, and support the campuses serving Pre-K students.
Welborn is currently the principal of Akin Elementary. Prior to joining Wylie ISD, Welborn spent the first 13 years of his educational career at Webb Middle School in Garland ISD. At Webb, he served as a reading intervention specialist, AVID site team member, campus improvement team (CIT) leader, and principal intern. Welborn joined Wylie ISD and Burnett Junior High in 2016. He served as an assistant principal at Harrison for the 2017-18 school year before spending a year in private business. Welborn was named Akin principal in 2019.
In addition to his principal’s certification, Welborn holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a master’s from Lamar University.
