Wylie PD’s New Program Connects Police Officers and Kids
1/19/2023In an effort to build relationships, the Wylie Police Department launched “Rock’n with Cops” this school year.
Carefully placed by the School Resource Officers, painted rocks are hidden around Wylie ISD elementary school campuses.
Once students find a painted rock, they turn it into the front office.
“When we’re notified a rock has been found, we go visit the student and bring them a goodie bag,” Wylie PD SRO Angie McIntosh said.
“Rock’n with Cops” is a program developed to connect elementary students with law enforcement.
“Since we don’t see them as much, this is a way for us to get in there and start forming relationships,” McIntosh said.
This new, fun program is doing just that. Officer McIntosh recently visited Dodd when she was recognized by a student who had previously found a rock.
“She ran up to me to say hi and then said, ‘Remember me? I’m Olivia Jane!’” McIntosh said.
McMillan Junior High art students painted the rocks with inspiring words and designs.
“It’s a fun way to build communication and to meet the kids one-on-one,” McIntosh said.
