The Wylie East High School Solar Car Team competed in the Advanced Classic Division of the 2022 Solar Car Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway. Teams from across the country compete with solar cars that are designed, built and programmed by students.

East’s team beat 215 teams in this national event from the Classic, Veteran Classic and Advanced Division. Forty-two of those teams were from the Advanced Division.

They drove 635 miles, beating the previous record in their division by 38 miles.

“Only one other team has outperformed this and unfortunately it was this year. So even after having an amazing year, we still got second place but I feel good that it was second place out of 215 teams over 23 years,” Tony Roseberry, WEHS solar car team sponsor, said.
