Every campus in Wylie ISD has been designated as a Heart Safe School by Project Adam, an initiative led by Cook Children’s. 

Schools demonstrating exemplary work in preparing and protecting students, staff and visitors in the event of a cardiac emergency are eligible to receive this coveted designation.

“Wylie ISD takes the training of employees seriously, especially in the areas of recognizing signs and symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest in students and staff,” Amy Hillin, Wylie ISD Health Services Coordinator, said.

Hillin said to achieve status as a Heart Safe School District, Wylie ISD had to demonstrate it has an AED program in place, and the program must involve training and drills on campuses. Additionally, nearly 300 Wylie ISD staff members are trained in CPR and AED.

“All credit must go to our campus nurses and their teams for this honor,” Hillin said. 

This is the first time the district has received the Heart Safe School designation.

“I couldn't be more proud of the work by our health services team,” Hillin said. “Our nurses and their teams are passionate about serving others, and especially taking care of those in need of medical attention.” 

Each campus will receive a Heart Safe School banner to recognize this achievement.

“We are one of only a few school districts in the state to have every single campus earn this designation,” Hillin said.
