At the Aug. 21 regularly scheduled Wylie ISD Board of Trustees meeting, the Board unanimously voted to place a bond referendum comprising one proposition on the upcoming Nov. 7 ballot. Wylie ISD registered voters will be asked to consider a $298,145,000 growth management bond that would enhance safety and security at all schools, build three new schools (elementary, intermediate and junior high), expand the district’s Career & Technical Education (CTE) program at the Birmingham Agriculture Center, and provide significant maintenance improvements and upgrades for schools and facilities districtwide.

If voters approve the bond, there will be no interest and sinking (I&S) tax rate increase. The Wylie ISD overall tax rate will be 18.5 cents lower than the previous school year.

As part of the district’s ongoing commitment to transparency and community engagement, Wylie ISD convened a Master Facilities Planning Committee in January 2023. Through a series of collaborative meetings, the 45+ member, community-led committee helped the district develop a comprehensive proposal to address growth and capacity needs. According to the district’s demographer School District Strategies, Wylie ISD is expected to grow by approximately 3,100 students in the next 10 years.

“We are grateful for not only the board’s action but the committee’s hard work and assistance in putting together a package that represents the needs of our community,” Superintendent Dr. David Vinson said. “We look forward to the future of our great district and hope voters will head to the polls in November.” 

Early Voting begins Oct. 23 and runs through Nov. 3. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7. A bond facts website will be launched in late August, and community meeting dates will be announced in early September. For questions, please email communications@wylieisd.net. 

Per Texas Education Code Section 45.003, school districts are required to categorize bond elections into distinct ballot propositions, reflecting the nature of the financed projects.
