Bond 2012

Wylie ISD Bond Election 2014

Voters in the Wylie ISD convincingly approved a $21.1 million bond package that will provide for new construction and renovations at Wylie East and Wylie high schools. The final tally was 861 FOR and 297 AGAINST. Passage will not increase school property taxes in the district of 13,000 students.

“We are grateful to the community for showing their support of Wylie ISD and what we are working towards as a district,” said Stacie Gooch, Wylie ISD Board President. “We know some people are still facing uncertain times and we will continue to work hard to ensure their trust.”

The district presented a bond package designed to provide functional equity, specifically at the two high schools. Funds will now to be used to add vital classroom and other space at Wylie East and improvements and renovations to parts of Wylie High.

The district conducted detailed facilities needs assessments at both high schools and reduced the number of proposed items to just those that meet the most immediate needs. Work is expected be begin very soon, with some projects completed by the start of school in the fall. Approved projects include:

At Wylie East:

  • Finish out 2nd floor classrooms
  • Additional career and technology classrooms
  • Cafeteria expansion
  • Band hall expansion
  • Dressing rooms and field house
  • Artificial turf for practice field
  • Additional gym space
  • Weight room

At Wylie High:

  • Science lab renovations
  • Dressing room space

“Since the last election we have been asking, and listening to, parents, students, staff and community groups about what they feel Wylie ISD needs to do to move forward,” said Wylie ISD Superintendent Dr. David Vinson. “As a new Superintendent it is very reassuring to know that the community values education.”
