MENTOR

  • The Wylie ISD MENTOR vision is to improve the lives of our students by fostering social connection with others.

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees a student that there’s someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges and makes them feel like they matter... they belong. Mentoring can help youth as they go through challenging life transitions, including dealing with stressful changes at home, difficulty at school (academically and behaviorally), and problems with navigating social situations. Close, healthy, supportive relationships between mentors and mentees are central to success (Jekielek et al., 2002; Rhodes & DuBois, 2006). For this reason, we ask mentors to commit to participating in the program for at least one academic year, meeting once weekly for a minimum of 30 minutes.
