Foundation Raises $170,000 for Students and Teachers
Wylie ISD Education Foundation hosted its 16th annual Boots ‘N Barbecue gala this past Saturday. This fundraising event sold out for the first time in its history, with 670 guests filling Southfork Ranch. Emcees Wende Liebert and her comfort chicken and goat, with Bryan Brokaw carried the night as party-goers engaged in games, silent and live auctions, line dancing and lots of laughs.
“The best thing about this party is the way our community joins together to pull it off,” said Lori Villarreal, Executive Director of the Foundation. “With proceeds going back to enhance education in Wylie ISD classrooms we are grateful for every volunteer who donates time and talents to this event.”
Campus PTAs, small business, large businesses and local craftsman donate items for the Foundation to auction. The Gala is organized by a steering committee of six, led by 2019 event chair, Dr. Rhonda Blackburn. Another 40 volunteers pitched in decorating and greeting guests. Villarreal continues, “We met our goal to make this year’s event bigger and better. We are already looking at ways to enhance next year’s Gala. Anytime we gather together for a shared cause, Wylie wins.”
