    The WATCH D.O.G.S. program invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their student’s school. During the day, WATCH D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, assist with lunch duty, patrol the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own student, but with other students as well. The goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program is as follows: 1) provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important and 2) provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security and safety.


    Steps to joining the WATCH D.O.G.S. program:

    1.    Registration Form

    T-shirts are required for the volunteer and encouraged for the volunteer’s student. Volunteer T-shirts are $15, student T-shirts are $12 each. You may send cash or check (payable to Akin PTA) with completed registration form. T-shirts from previous years may be worn if you have them.

    2.    Criminal History Background Form

    a background check must be completed each school year online at https://www.wylieisd.net/Domain/8 or you may access application from Akin home page and clicking “volunteer information and background form”

    3.    Payment

    return payment with completed forms to your student’s teacher

    4.    Volunteer Training

    Wylie ISD requires all volunteers to attend a brief volunteer training session and sign a confidentiality waiver yearly. Training is held every Friday morning throughout the year at 8am (after Frog Fest). Training takes place in the cafeteria. If you need to schedule volunteer training at a different time please contact Melissa Compton at 972-429-3408 to make arrangements.
