Emergency Communications Overview
-
Wylie ISD values communication with students and parents. We always want to ensure you are notified in the event of a school closure due to weather or another emergency. In the event of a school closure or emergency, Wylie ISD will utilize the Blackboard system to call, email, and text all numbers and addresses associated with your account. Additionally, we will send a push notification to our district mobile app and post the information on our social media pages. To ensure you receive emergency communications via the method you prefer, we need you to verify your contact information is current and accurate.
Skyward feeds information to other district systems, including Blackboard, therefore your information within the Skyward system should always be valid, current and correct. While every guardian of a Wylie ISD student has their own login to Skyward and Blackboard, there may be times where the limits within the Skyward system will not allow families to include all the contact numbers/addresses needed. In such a case, families can add additional contact information to the Blackboard system, via the district app or the web portal.
Use the navigation links to view instructions on making changes to your contact information so that in the event of an emergency, you will be promptly notified. If you have any questions, please contact the Wylie ISD Communications Team.
Instructions for Parents
-
Skyward
Parents can add/update their email address by logging into the Skyward system on a computer (not available on your cell phone). Any other updates must be done by contacting the campus registrar at your child's campus. These changes will be sent to our communication system nightly and will therefore take effect the next day.
Forgot Login or Password?
On the Family Access login screen, there is a link under the Sign In button labeled Forgot your Login/Password? Enter the email address tied to your Family Access Account and you will receive an email from Skyward containing instructions on how to retrieve your login information. If you experience any problems with your login or password, please contact the campus your student is attending.
-
District Mobile App
Parents can log into the District mobile app (available in the App Store and on Google Play). Once logged in, swipe until you find the icon with your name under it. Click this icon and then the edit icon in the upper right-hand corner. Here you can add/edit your photo, change your password and add phone, text/SMS numbers, and/or email addresses. These changes add to the contacts synced from Skyward, so there is no need to duplicate an entry that exists in Skyward. To ensure you receive emergency text/SMS messages, make sure at least one of your phone numbers is labeled text/SMS. The changes made here take effect immediately.
Forgot Login or Password?
On the login screen within the app, there is a link under the Log In button located on the log in screen labeled 'Forgot Password?'. Enter the same username you use to access Skyward Family. Once you click the 'Send Email' button, you will receive an email from Blackboard containing your username and a temporary password. The email will also contain instructions on how to sign into the app and web portal and change your password. If you experience any problems with your login or password, please contact the Wylie ISD Communications Team.
-
Blackboard Web Portal
Parents can log into the Blackboard web portal (the system that powers our mobile app) to add phone numbers and email addresses to be contacted. Once logged in, simply click the 'Add' dropdown under the 'Delivery Addresses' section. Follow the prompts to enter your new phone, SMS, or email address into the system and click 'Save'. After you have added all your addresses, click the 'Save' button in the main window. These changes add to the contacts synced from Skyward, so there is no need to duplicate an entry that exists in Skyward. To ensure you receive emergency text/SMS messages, make sure at least one of your phone numbers is labeled text/SMS. The changes made here take effect immediately.
