ART 1 & ADVANCED ART 1
Bienvenue and Welcome!
This year we will be exploring the elements of art and principles of design. We will draw, paint, and build sculptures and explore a variety of different art mediums such as graphite, colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, paint, clay, printmaking, paper mache, and much more. We'll also learn about different art periods and how culture shapes art. Students will gain an appreciation for art and learn how to become better visual critics.
For supplies, students are required to pay a supply fee ($15 for Art 1, $20 for Advanced Art 1). This fee covers the cost of an art kit they will receive and use in class each day. The Art 1 kit includes a sketchbook, 3 drawing pencils, 2 sharpies, a pencil sharpener, eraser, and a couple blending stumps in a convenient zipper bag. The Advanced kit has everything that is in the Art 1 kit, but also contains 2 micron pens in addition. The fee also covers the cost of a few extra supplies for some of our more expensive units (ceramics, painting, and printmaking).
I will provide all other necessary supplies. However, some students may choose to purchase their own set of good colored pencils (I recommend Prismacolor) so they don't have to use communal supplies and so they can work on drawings at home.
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you this year. You can email me with any questions at:

This course is a combined section of new (Art 2) and previous (Art 3) Photography students. Art 1 is a prerequisite to taking this course.
In this class we will explore composition and design principles through both traditional and experimental photography. Students will learn how to use a DSLR camera and how to take photographs in manual mode by setting things such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and more. We explore portraiture, landscapes, still life, macro, action photography--plus much more. Students will also learn basics in photo editing.
There is a $25 supplemental fee to take this course which covers the cost of two field trips and an SD card for each student. In the past we have gone to the Dallas Arboretum and the Dallas Zoo, as well as the Dallas Museum of Art.
