3rd Grade Math & Science Teacher
Welcome Akin Families!
Just a bit about me! I live in Sachse, TX and have been married to the love of my life, Dennis, for 24 years. Together we brought two wonderful children into the world, Patrick and Caitlin, who have both graduated from Wylie High School. During after-school hours, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing with my dog, Roxy, but I also really love to sing! I am currently a member of the Grand Chorus for Millennial Choirs and Orchestras as a soprano II. It has been an indescribable experience over the last several years to sing with this talented group of people as we have performed many local concerts around the Dallas metroplex. I have been able to travel with this group to sing in amazing places, including Tabernacle Square in Salt Lake City and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Such unforgettable and moving experiences!! I am looking forward to another incredible year of singing with this amazing group of musicians!
I am also excited about beginning a new school year at Akin Elementary! This past spring marked my 26th year as an educator, with 23 of those years as an Akin frog!! I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to my new position this year. I am a 1995 graduate of Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I have held an Endorsement in Special Education, also from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, since 1997. I have general education experience in Kindergarten and 2nd/3rd grades, as well as over a decade of experience as a resource and inclusion teacher through special education in grades K-4.
I feel strongly that it is my job not only to facilitate academic growth in students, but also to encourage their personal growth in character. My hope is that while growing their big brains, each child feels loved and valued each day at school. This is a job that I could never accomplish without the assistance of you, parents(s). This team approach will help make our students successful and confident people as they develop this year. If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please feel free to contact me at 972-429-3400 ext. 6008 to set up an appointment.
Let's have a fabulous school year!!!
Sincerely,
Melanie Fuson
