School Resource Officers

Wylie ISD SRO group photo

School Resources Officers (SROs) are an important link between our local law enforcement agencies and our students, staff and families. All of our dedicated SROs are experienced officers from the Wylie and Sachse police departments, with additional specialized training for the school setting. SROs are housed inside Wylie schools and are a great resource that the school community can easily access. The SRO fulfills three roles by using a triad approach: acting as a law enforcement officer, an informal counselor, and a law-related educator. Of course as a law enforcement officer, their primary purpose is to "keep the peace" and are ready to respond to any threat to school safety. They do not enforce school rules or administer student discipline. To learn more about the roles of the SRO, please visit the National Association of School Resource Officers at www.nasro.org. Wylie Police Department SROs also coordinate and manage the city's Youth Programs.
