Wylie ISD Students Earn Record Number of Industry Certifications

Wylie ISD Career and Technology Education (CTE) students set a new district record during the 2024-25 school year, earning more than 1,888 Industry-Based Certifications in their CTE courses. That’s a 53% increase over last year’s total of 1,236.

“The number of certifications earned has been an area of celebration for several years,” said Jason Hudson, Wylie ISD Executive Director of Career and Technology Education. “It is very exciting to know that our students are earning a certification that can help them be more prepared to enter the workforce following graduation.”

The growth in certifications has been steady and impressive. In the 2020-21 school year, students earned 522 certifications. The following year, that number nearly doubled to 893. In 2022-23, students earned 1,032, and last school year, they earned 1,236 certifications — setting the stage for this year’s record-breaking achievement.

“CTE staff, with their extensive industry experience, assist us in our passing rate,” Hudson said.

Industry-based certifications validate students’ skills in specific career fields, ranging from health science and information technology to welding and culinary arts. These credentials often give students a competitive edge when seeking employment or further training after high school.
