Wylie ISD Solar Eclipse 2024 Information

Next Monday, April 8, the Dallas area will be in the path of totality for the Great North American Eclipse. We look forward to enhancing the educational experience for our students with a day filled with lessons about the eclipse, followed by safe viewing. As we get ready for this rare event, we want to ensure families are prepared and informed.

Safe Eclipse Viewing

Safety is our priority during the solar eclipse. It is imperative that all students understand the importance of proper eye protection when observing the eclipse. Safety tips can be found HERE. To facilitate safe viewing, we will be providing certified eclipse glasses, courtesy of the Perot Museum, for all students participating in outdoor activities. We urge you to reinforce safety guidelines with your child to ensure their well-being during this event. Any student who fails to follow safety rules will be required to go inside.

If you prefer that your child does not participate in outdoor viewing activities or recess on Monday, please notify your child's science teacher by Friday, April 5. We respect your preferences and will make appropriate accommodations for your child.

For more information about our district’s lesson plans for Monday, please view our district flyer.

Dismissal and Afternoon Traffic

As the eclipse coincides with elementary dismissal time, we anticipate heightened traffic and congestion in the vicinity of our schools. We request your patience and cooperation during this period, especially when picking up your child.

Due to the increased number of visitors and traffic in our area, we also anticipate that our buses may be delayed in the afternoon. We encourage you to use the "Here Comes the Bus" app on Monday to track your child's bus in real time. The app is helpful on days when traffic conditions may be unpredictable.

We want to reassure you that we have been in regular communication with local emergency management officials to ensure thorough planning and coordination for the eclipse. We are grateful for their expertise and commitment to safety.

We are excited about the opportunity to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event together and are committed to ensuring it is safe and enjoyable for everyone. We remain optimistic that the weather will cooperate, allowing our students a memorable learning experience. Please know that we will follow standard safety and security protocols for campus visitors. For specific questions, please contact your child's campus. If you have other questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
