Wylie ISD Names Maria Cobar as Director of Purchasing

Wylie ISD is proud to announce the appointment of Maria Cobar as the district’s new Director of Purchasing, following the retirement of Gina Smilie.

Cobar brings extensive experience in public sector procurement, with a strong background in supporting both school districts and local government entities. Before joining Wylie ISD, she served as Senior Buyer for Mesquite ISD. Her previous experience includes procurement roles with the City of Dallas, Garland ISD, and Brinks, where she was responsible for a wide range of purchasing operations.

Throughout her career, Cobar has managed multimillion-dollar contracts, led formal bid processes, and presented purchasing contract recommendations to school boards and city councils. She is also experienced in federal and state purchasing guidelines.

Cobar holds a Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Sciences from the University of North Texas and is TASBO Certified as a Registered Texas School Business Administrator.
