Wylie ISD Names Dr. Timothy Benson Principal of Wylie East High School

Wylie ISD is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Timothy Benson as the next principal of Wylie East High School.

Dr. Benson is committed to building strong relationships, supporting student success, and fostering a positive school environment. He currently serves as the principal of Ouida Baley Middle School in Royse City ISD, overseeing all aspects of campus operations and instruction. During his tenure, the campus has experienced gains in student achievement and attendance while maintaining a strong focus on culture and relationships.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Benson served as associate principal and assistant principal at Royse City High School. During his time at RCHS, he played a key role in academic programming, student support services, master scheduling, and initiatives designed to improve student achievement and college, career, and military readiness.

Before joining Royse City ISD, Dr. Benson served as vice principal at Mohawk Elementary in Richardson ISD. He began his career in public education as a paraprofessional in Nacogdoches ISD and went on to serve in a variety of roles, including middle school athletic coordinator and high school teacher and coach in both Nacogdoches ISD and Richardson ISD. His experience spans elementary, middle, and high school campuses, providing him with a well-rounded perspective on supporting students and leading schools.

“Dr. Benson brings a diverse background in education and a leadership style centered on relationships, high expectations, and student success,” said Wylie ISD Superintendent Dr. Kim Spicer. “Throughout the interview process, it became clear that he values people, believes in building trust, and is committed to working alongside students, staff, and families to build upon the many strengths of Wylie East High School. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Benson and his family to Raider Nation.”

Dr. Benson earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University and later earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University. He holds superintendent and principal certifications, along with certifications in English as a Second Language, composite science, generalist, and physical education.

“I am honored to join Wylie East High School and become part of such a proud and accomplished community,” Dr. Benson said. “Wylie East has a strong tradition of excellence, and I look forward to partnering with students, staff, and families as we continue building upon that foundation together.”

The community is invited to meet Dr. Benson during a meet-and-greet on Wednesday, June 17, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Wylie East High School cafeteria.
