- News
Wylie ISD has been honored with the 2025 Best Communities for Music Education award (BCME). This award was given by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), the largest global not-for-profit music trade organization. Now in its 26th year, BCME continues to honor school districts for their dedication to music education and their commitment to providing all students with access to music as an essential part of a well-rounded education.
With over 46 states being honored in 2025, this year marks the 12th time Wylie ISD has received this prestigious honor. The award continues to highlight the district with a visible symbol of the outstanding efforts by teachers, students, administrators, parents and community leaders who recognize music education as a vital part of an enriching academic experience.
NAMM grants this award to districts it believes serve as a model for the power of music education to foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts. This recognition gives districts and schools the tools to increase visibility and support their music programs.
“Our music educators make a lasting impact across Wylie ISD,” Executive Director of Fine Arts Glenn Lambert said. “Reaching every student in grades K–5 and more than 3,400 students in grades 6–12. Music is not just a cornerstone of our Fine Arts programs, it’s a vital part of our entire district. This recognition is a meaningful affirmation of the outstanding work happening in our music classrooms. It reflects the talent, dedication, and creativity of both our students and educators. We’re grateful for the continued support of our administration and Wylie ISD families, who recognize the value of music education and help ensure it thrives in every school.”
To earn the Best Communities for Music Education designation, Wylie ISD provided comprehensive information on key areas such as funding, instruction time, participation, and community engagement. All responses were verified by district officials and evaluated by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
According to the NAMM Foundation, music education plays a vital role in the overall development of all students. Studies consistently show that participation in music programs can enhance cognitive skills, improve academic performance, and strengthen social connections. In schools, music serves not only as a creative outlet but also as a powerful tool for building confidence and cultural awareness. Earning recognition as one of the Best Communities for Music Education underscores Wylie ISD’s dedication to academic excellence.
