Wylie ISD Looks Ahead as Board Prepares for Superintendent Transition After Dr. Vinson Named Lone Finalist in Conroe ISD
- Announcement

This evening, Aug. 27, Conroe ISD announced Dr. David Vinson as its lone finalist for superintendent, and the Wylie ISD Board of Trustees joins in sharing this news with the community.
State law requires a 21-day waiting period before Dr. Vinson can officially be appointed as the Conroe ISD superintendent. He will continue serving Wylie ISD during that time and until a start date is finalized, helping to ensure a smooth transition for the district.
Dr. Vinson joined Wylie ISD in 2011 and is now in his 15th year leading the district, a tenure that far exceeds the typical span for Texas superintendents. Under his leadership, the district has experienced extraordinary growth, earned statewide and national recognition, and celebrated academic and extracurricular success.
“Dr. Vinson helped Wylie ISD reach new heights and truly put our district on the map,” said Board President Dr. Jacob Day. “His leadership and his dedication have made a lasting impact. While it’s hard to imagine Wylie ISD without him, we are grateful for his service and wish him and Cristy the very best.”
As the district prepares for this change, the Board reaffirms its commitment to excellence and the values that define Wylie ISD.
“As a Board, we are confident in the future of Wylie ISD,” Dr. Day said on behalf of the trustees. “Our responsibility is to ensure our next leader shares our vision, lives our values, and is fully committed to our kids, our staff, and our community. Wylie ISD is in an excellent position, and we are ready to build on that success as we step into this next chapter of leadership.”
Throughout this process, should Dr. Vinson need to be away for personal or professional reasons, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Kim Spicer will step in to oversee district operations and initiatives.
The Board will meet soon to determine the next steps and establish a timeline for naming Wylie ISD’s next Superintendent of Schools.
