Wylie ISD High School Theatre Arts Programs Earn Exemplary Status in Texas Educational Theatre Association’s Award of Distinction
Wylie ISD exemplary status from TETA for WHS and WEHS

Wylie ISD’s award-winning theatre arts programs are taking a bow on the statewide stage. Both Wylie High School and Wylie East High School have achieved Exemplary Status in the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETA) Award of Distinction, placing them among just 31 schools in the entire state of Texas to earn this prestigious recognition.

The Award of Distinction honors schools and districts that make outstanding contributions to theatre education by excelling in achievement, resource development, diversity, and advocacy for the arts. Earning Exemplary Status is the highest level of the award’s tiered system, which ranges from Recognized to Exemplary.

To achieve this status, schools must annually submit a detailed application demonstrating their dedication to theatre through multiple avenues. Points are awarded based on a range of criteria, including:

  • Quality and quantity of theatrical performances
  • A robust play library and access to acting spaces
  • Community and administrative support for theatre programs
  • Student involvement in University Interscholastic League (UIL) contests
  • Participation in Theatrical Design competitions
  • Theatre technology

The achievements of Wylie High School and Wylie East High School reflect their excellence in each of these categories and their commitment to advancing fine arts education in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and Texas.

"We applaud Wylie High School and Wylie East High School for their remarkable efforts in promoting theatre arts. Their programs serve as a model of creativity, community, and educational excellence,” said Travis Springfield, Past President of the Texas Educational Theatre Association.

This recognition celebrates the passion and hard work of Wylie ISD’s theatre educators, students, and community supporters, who ensure that the performing arts remain a thriving part of school culture. With strong backing from the district and community, the programs continue to provide students with high-quality opportunities to learn, perform, and grow in the arts.
