Wylie ISD Celebrates Academic Excellence with 29 National Merit Commended Students
- News
Wylie ISD is proud to recognize 29 high school seniors who have been named National Merit Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP).
Students enter the National Merit competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), typically administered in the fall of their junior year. This exam serves as the initial screening of program entrants. Based on their PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores, the top 50,000 high scorers nationwide qualify for recognition, and approximately 34,000 of those students are named Commended Students.
In late September, Commended Students receive Letters of Commendation recognizing their exceptional academic promise. These students are honored based on a nationally applied Selection Index score, which varies from year to year and is slightly below the level required for Semifinalist status in each state. While Commended Students do not advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, many may become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.
Congratulations to our 29 Wylie ISD National Merit Commended Students!
