Wylie ISD Board of Trustees Swear In Members, Elect Officers, and Honor Outgoing Trustee
- Announcement
The Wylie ISD Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on November 18, 2024, where several key events took place, including the swearing-in of newly elected members, the election of officers, and the recognition of an outgoing trustee.
Swearing-In of Trustees
Incumbents Bill Howard (Place 3) and Kylie Reising (Place 7) were sworn in to begin their second four-year terms, while Suzi Kennon (Place 4) took the oath for her first term. All three were unopposed in the November 2024 election, which was canceled in August due to the lack of opponents.
Election of Officers
The Board also conducted its election of officers. Dr. Jacob Day, Stacie Smith, and Kylie Reising retained their roles as President, Vice President, and Secretary, respectively, continuing their leadership for another term.
Recognition of Outgoing Trustee Matt Atkins
The Board recognized outgoing trustee Matt Atkins, who chose not to seek re-election after eight years of dedicated service. The audience gave Atkins a standing ovation for his contributions to the district’s students, staff, and community. Several former trustees who served alongside Atkins—including Mitch Herzog, Stacie Gooch, and Heather Leggett—joined in honoring him.
During his tenure, Atkins held multiple leadership roles, including Board President, Board Secretary, and most recently, Board Vice President. He also chaired the 2023 Master Facilities Committee and represented the Board on the City/School Partnership Committee throughout his service.
Atkins’ leadership and service were instrumental during pivotal moments in the district’s history, including the global pandemic, two bond referendums, and the 2021 winter storm.
“In all these roles, he has shown us what servant leadership looks like—humble, thoughtful, and always putting the needs of others first,” said Board President Dr. Day. “Each role he stepped into brought its own challenges, and each time, Matt met those challenges with grace, a level head, and an unwavering focus on what was best for our students, staff, families, and taxpayers.”
