Wylie ISD Board of Trustees Names Dr. Kim Spicer as Superintendent
- Announcement

The Wylie ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the hiring of Dr. Kim Spicer as Superintendent of Schools during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, following the completion of the state-required 21-day waiting period. Dr. Spicer becomes the district’s first female superintendent in its nearly 125-year history.
Dr. Spicer has been an integral part of Wylie ISD’s leadership team for nearly a decade. She joined the district in 2015 as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, leading academic programs, professional learning, and principal supervision. In 2018, she was promoted to Deputy Superintendent, a role that expanded her leadership to include curriculum and instruction, athletics, fine arts, career and technical education, and technology.
During her tenure overseeing curriculum and instruction, Wylie ISD has maintained an A-rating from the Texas Education Agency and earned national recognition from Solution Tree in 2022 as a Model Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work® District—a three-year distinction that highlights the district’s culture of collaboration, innovation, and a strong focus on student success.
Dr. Spicer began her public education career as a science teacher at Irion County High School in Mertzon, Texas, where she taught for five years before joining Frenship ISD in Wolfforth. She spent six years teaching science at Frenship High School before moving into campus leadership. Over the next 14 years, she served as assistant principal for three years, associate principal for one year, and principal for 10 years, leading the large suburban high school until 2015, when she joined Wylie ISD.
“I am honored to serve as Superintendent of Wylie ISD and grateful to the Board for their trust,” Dr. Spicer said. “This district and community mean so much to me, and I look forward to continuing our shared commitment to doing what’s best for our students, staff, and all stakeholders who make Wylie ISD such a special place.”
Dr. Spicer holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Lamar University, a Master of Education from Angelo State University, and a Bachelor of Science from Angelo State University. She earned her superintendent certification from Lubbock Christian University.
She and her husband, Sid, reside in Sachse within Wylie ISD and are the proud parents of three children and grandparents of two.
