Wylie ISD Art Program Named District of Distinction for Third Year in a Row

For the third consecutive year, Wylie ISD has been named a Texas Art Education Association District of Distinction.

Only 109 districts statewide earned this TAEA Visual Arts Award out of more than 1,200 eligible districts, placing Wylie ISD’s Art Department among just 9% of Texas school districts to receive this honor for the 2025-26 school year.

“This distinction is a direct reflection of the exceptional work our staff does every day,” Executive Director of Fine Arts Craig Needham said. “They insist on going beyond typical expectations, and their dedication to providing meaningful artistic experiences for students continues to set our program apart. I could not be prouder of the Wylie ISD Art Department! Bravo!”

The Visual Art Administrators of Texas, a division of TAEA, recognizes districts with outstanding leadership in promoting the arts within their districts and communities.

Recognizing districts that are active participants in TAEA and beyond, Wylie ISD’s visual arts program met or exceeded a rigorous 14-point rubric, which examined the district's visual art program from participation in TAEA through membership, exhibitions, contests, and community engagement in the visual arts through field experiences, community service, and collaboration with other content areas.
