Wylie ISD is committed to excellence for every student, ensuring that each one has access to opportunities that support their unique strengths and future goals.
Every March, Wylie ISD celebrates College Week—not just to highlight colleges and universities but also to explore all post-secondary pathways, including military service and career opportunities.
As part of this celebration, the district is proud to recognize Wylie East Class of 2022 graduate Jonathan Caldwell, who pursued a path of service by joining the military after high school. His dedication and hard work exemplify the many ways Wylie ISD students can find success beyond graduation.
Caldwell began learning the value of the military in the WEHS Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program.
“I am incredibly proud of Jonathan as he serves in harm's way aboard one of our nation’s premier power projection vessels!” Col. (Ret.) Brooks McFarland, Jonathan’s Air Force JROTC instructor, said.
WEHS Lead Counselor Mandy Coers added, “I am so incredibly proud of the outstanding young man that Johnathan has become. It's an honor to know him and to know that he is serving our country.”
Caldwell moved to Wylie from St. Louis in 2019.
“He knew that he was meant to serve,” Special Education teacher Patty Maxwell said. “My heart is so full knowing that Jonathan has become the young man he is today. He learned how to face adversity and conquer it. He learned that with faith and hard work, he could do anything. I am honored that our country, my family, and I are all protected and overseen by his service.”
