Watkins Recognized as Model PLC at Work Campus for Exceptional Student Achievement
- News
Watkins Elementary was recently named by Solution Tree as a Model PLC at Work® Campus for its consistent success in improving student achievement. This recognition places Watkins among an elite group, being one of only five schools in Texas and one of 34 schools and districts nationwide to receive this distinction.
A key factor in this achievement has been the school’s successful implementation of the Professional Learning Communities at Work (PLCs) process. PLCs emphasize that the key to enhancing student learning lies in continuous, job-embedded professional development for the adults who serve those students.
"We congratulate our staff on successfully completing the comprehensive application process and presenting a case to support this distinguished recognition,” Watkins Principal Jennifer Wiseman said.
The three core principles of a PLC encourage educators to:
- Focus on learning
- Build a collaborative culture
- Create a results orientation
“Our Guiding Coalition was instrumental in shaping a narrative and gathering key materials that demonstrated our staff's devotion to providing high-quality learning experiences,” Wiseman said. “We offer our sincerest appreciation to all individuals who contributed to this remarkable achievement. We take immense pride in our exceptional Wrangler staff and their steadfast commitment to fostering a superior learning environment for our students.”
Solution Tree’s recognition is based on rigorous data, including a demonstrated commitment to PLC principles, at least three years of successful implementation, and clear evidence of improved student outcomes over that period. Watkins earned this honor due to its ongoing dedication to helping all students achieve at high levels.
In 2022, Wylie ISD also earned the distinction of being named a Model PLC at Work® School District. For more information about Watkins’s journey, visit the AllThingsPLC website.
