The Heart of the School – John McCrary at Tibbals Elementary

Meet John McCrary, a dedicated special education bus driver at Tibbals Elementary. He has been part of Wylie ISD since 2001, making a difference behind the scenes every day.

When asked what he enjoys most about his job, John shared: “Every day is unique. I love connecting with the kids. A bus driver is one of the first things they see, and hopefully, we put a smile on their face.”

One of his favorite memories as a bus driver is the moment a student made him proud. When an argument started on the bus, one of his riders stepped in to diffuse the situation.

“My aide, at the time, and I wanted to brag on him, and his principal bragged on him. He just got the biggest smile on his face. It made my day. To see that growth — it was neat. I still see him once in a while.”

It’s moments like these that remind John why he loves being part of the school family.

Outside of work, John enjoys taking care of his yard and spending time with his family. A couple of fun facts about him are that he was an extra in the movie JFK, and he is an Eagle Scout!
