The Heart of the School – Barbara Hernandez, Akin Elementary

Meet Barbara Hernandez, a long-time dedicated custodian at Akin Elementary. She has been part of Wylie ISD for 19 years! She is a true superstar behind the scenes!

When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Barbara shared: “The best part of work is that sometimes when the kids see me, they come and give me a hug!

Her motto is to always be caring and do your best to help others. It’s thoughts like these that we are thankful Barbara is part of the Wylie ISD family.

Akin Principal Chris Dunkle’s Secretary, Becky Hogan, nominated Barbara. She said she works tirelessly daily without a complaint.

Outside of work, Barbara enjoys taking care of her family and working at home.
