Junior Ring Ceremony Spotlights Teacher-Student Bonds at Wylie East
WEHS student Anika Tonn asks former teacher Ms. Aylor to present class ring.

Wylie East High School junior Anika Tonn recently shared a heartfelt moment at Harrison Intermediate with her most influential teacher, Kathryn Aylor.

Flanked by her two sisters and mother, Tonn crept down the hallway with roses, Aylor’s favorite Sonic drink, and a gift bag to surprise her former teacher with a meaningful request:

“Will you present my senior ring to me?”

With a joyful “Yes,” the two embraced, symbolizing the powerful bond between teachers and students in Wylie ISD.

The Junior Ring Ceremony is a beloved tradition at Wylie East. Each fall, juniors dress in their Sunday best and gather with their families in the auditorium. On stage, students are joined by a teacher who made a lasting impact on their education. That teacher then presents the student with their senior ring—a milestone moment that celebrates both academic achievement and the relationships built along the way.

Tonn chose Aylor, who was her fifth-grade reading teacher, to present her senior ring to her.

“Because of her class, I took advanced English classes, and it’s my favorite subject!” Tonn said.

For Aylor, the moment was just as meaningful. She has taught all four of the Tonn children, making the honor even more special.

“As educators, we often wonder about the impact we make on our students or if they will even remember us,” Aylor said. “When Anika asked me to present her with her senior ring, I was both honored and deeply touched. She was, and still is, such an amazing student and person. I am so excited to be a part of her next big moment!”

The WEHS Junior Ring Ceremony highlights the unique traditions in Wylie ISD that celebrate not only student success but also the dedication of educators who inspire and shape futures.
