Cooper Junior High Names Chavez As New Assistant Principal

Wylie ISD is proud to announce the appointment of Angie Chavez as assistant principal at Cooper Junior High.

Chavez brings 22 years of experience in education, including 20 years as a school counselor. Since 2015, she has served students, families, and staff at Otto Middle School in Plano ISD, providing leadership and support in student services, intervention systems, campus collaboration, and counseling program development.

Prior to her time at Otto Middle School, Chavez spent three years as a counselor at Skaggs Elementary in PISD. She also served as an elementary school counselor in Dallas ISD for six years after beginning her career as a first-grade teacher.

A bilingual educator, Chavez is recognized for her collaborative leadership style and her ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with campus teams to support student achievement, strengthen intervention systems, and create positive learning environments where students can succeed.

Her dedication to students and schools has earned numerous professional honors, including the Texas School Counselor Association's CREST Award (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) and Northeast Counselor of the Year recognition in 2011. She also received the Character Counts Award in 2008 and 2010.

Chavez earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Psychology and a Bachelor of Criminal Justice from New Mexico State University. She also holds a Master of Criminal Justice from New Mexico State University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Concordia University.
