Fourth-graders from Dodd Elementary traveled to Fort Worth and Weatherford on an Education in Action Discover Texas field trip on Thursday, March 5, 2026, to experience what they are learning in Texas History. Students visited the Fort Worth Stockyards and the Doss Culture and Heritage Center.

Local decorated hero visits Wylie East AFJROTC

AFJROTC students didn’t just hear about Air Force leadership; they heard it from someone who once stood exactly where they stand today. Lt. Col. Kimber “Lone Star” Nettis returned to Wylie ISD to speak with cadets at Wylie East about how discipline, courage, and mentorship helped chart her course in the U.S. Air Force.

Dodd Elementary has been named a 2025 Lone Star Ribbon School by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), one of only 26 campuses statewide to earn this inaugural distinction. The announcement, made by Governor Greg Abbott, honors public schools for outstanding academic achievement and meaningful progress in closing achievement gaps.
