Welcome to My Classroom

My name is Teresa Abrams. 

I have been a wife for 35 years and a mother of 3 beautiful children by birth, one wonderful daughter-in-law, one son-in-law by love, and two precious granddaughters, Evelyn & Eloise, who call me Gigi.  We also have twins that will arrive within the month of August 2022, named Garrett and Madelyn.

I have been a lifelong resident of Wylie for 59 years.
And I have been a Gardener of Children for the past 33 years.

At the beginning of school, I receive a packet of seeds.  I began planning my schedule and checking my tools.  I make sure my soil is just right and that I have plenty of room for sprouting and then I plant my seeds. 

I water them.   I feed them.  I make sure they have plenty of sunshine, and then I wait.  I watch as they begin to sprout.  I watch them closely and check them daily for weeds and pests.  I know that different plants need different things and that each plant has its own shape. 

Some plants grow quickly, pushing upward, eager, impatient.
Some grow more slowly, unfolding themselves bit by bit.
Some plants sprout thin and tall.
Some are bushy and wide-spreading.
Some are bold and showy. They are brightly colored, saying “LOOK at ME!”
Some are silvery and quiet.
A few are like wildflowers and will grow anywhere you put them.
And some need gentle care and a special watching-over.

I tend to my garden all year long until the year is over and my job is done.
But I keep watching them as they grow, uncurling their stems and stretching their leaves outward, and showing their faces to the sun. 

At the end of each year, I will put my tools away and wait for a new packet of seed and for a new garden to begin.

If anyone asks me what I do, I will read them this book; Mrs. Spitzer’s Garden by Edith Pattou.
I pray each and every morning that I will always have Mrs. Spitzer’s love, gentleness, and patience.
