Grant Application Process

  • The grant application process is outlined in the Wylie ISD Career and Technology Education Long Range Plan.  Contained below is an excerpt of that plan dealing with the application process.

    New Program/Course

    1. The new course/program has received approval at the campus/district level.
    2. Applicant(s) determines whether or not the course/program falls under the Birmingham guidelines.
      Is this course/program an enhancement to the regular high school  course requirements? 
      Is this course/program an elective? 
      Would this course/program provide students with employable skills  upon graduation? 
      Is this course/program covered in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Career and Technology Education?
    3. Applicant(s) obtains an application from the appropriate campus administrator.
    4. Applicant(s) fills out the application completely and returns it to appropriate campus administrator.
    5. Campus administrator submits the application to the Career and Tech Executive Board Chairperson.
    6. Career and Tech Executive Board recommends approval of the grant to the Wylie Board of Trustees.
    7. Following Wylie Board of Trustees approval the application is submitted to the F.O. Birmingham Land Board for approval.
    8. Upon approval by the F.O. Birmingham Land Board, a number is assigned to the project, and the applicant(s) submits a budget to the Business Office for approval by the Wylie Board of Trustees.
    9. Following Wylie Board of Trustees approval of the budget, expenditures are requested.
    10. Applicant(s) is required to keep track of budget expenditures and deadlines for purchase orders and spending grant funds.

    Sustaining/Enhancement Program

    1. Applicant(s) obtains an application from the appropriate campus administrator.
    2. Applicant(s) fills out the Front Page, Abstract, and Budgetary sections ONLY and returns it to the appropriate campus administrator.
    3. Campus administrator submits the application to the Career and Tech Executive Board Chairperson.
    4. Career and Tech Executive Board recommends approval of the grant to the Wylie Board of Trustees.
    5. Following Wylie Board of Trustees approval the application is submitted to the F.O. Birmingham Land Board for approval.
    6. Upon approval of the application by the F.O. Birmingham Land Board, a number is assigned to the project, and the applicant submits a budget to the Business Office for Wylie Board of Trustees approval.
    7. Following Wylie Board of Trustees approval of the budget, expenditures are requested.
    8. Applicant(s) is required to keep track of budget expenditures and deadlines for purchase orders and spending grant funds.

    Special Notes

    Transfer of funds (budget amendments) requires the applicant(s) to obtain verbal/written approval from the Campus Principal, Career and Tech Executive Board Chairperson and/or Superintendent of Schools, and the Director of the F.O. Birmingham Land Board.

    Funding availability drives the implementation date of the course/program.
