    Wylie ISD Junior High students have a chance to explore several different electives outside of core content areas.  Students gain study a career in the STEM field, Media Technology, Video Production, Journalism, Photojournalism, and explore different College and Career Pathways.  Interested students should talk to their counselor for more information about elective offerings at their junior high school.  Due to staffing requirements, some electives may only be offered at specific campuses and be limited on seats.

    Students enrolled in Photojournalism communicate in a variety of forms for a variety of audiences and purposes. Students will become analytical consumers of media and technology to enhance their communication skills. Published photos of professional photojournalists, technology, and visual and electronic media are used as tools for learning as students create, clarify, critique, and produce effective visual representations. Students enrolled in this course will refine and enhance their journalistic skills and plan, prepare, and produce photographs for a the campus yearbook.

    Students in the College and Career Readiness course will explore a variety of options for College and Career.     Future Educators of Wylie is a local elective where 8th grade students will explore several jobs in the education field. The class will guide students through qualities of leadership, professionalism and service, and expose them to the art of teaching itself through tutoring and classroom assistance. Students will research, discuss and present information as well as interview guests in several fields. All students will also be a part of TAFE (Texas Association of Future Educators) and it is thegoal of our Burnett Chapter to participate in competitive events that revolve around the �TRAFLES� � Teaching, Recreation, Appreciation, Fundraising, Leadership, Educational Awareness and Service. This class will help prepare students the Education Career Experience in high school. This course is only offered at Burnett Junior High School.
