Wylie Way Christmas is a resource that provides Christmas gifts for Wylie ISD children and their siblings that have an identified financial need through the school district. Participants are approved by district employs at a registration event by providing proof of qualifying documentation (Medicaid, Social Security, Free/Reduced Lunch, Homelessness, Lonestar, WIC, CHIP) and verification of current enrollment of the child in our WISD database.
Now in its fourth year, Wylie Way Christmas continues to grow. The event serves as the culmination of the district’s Caring and Giving portion of the Wylie Way. Last year 976 kids were helped and this year the program will brighten the lives of 1021 kids. Since each child is granted three gifts each, that’s more than 3,000 items.
“Only in Wylie ISD does something this big take place,” says Joley Martin, Wylie ISD’s family liaison and coordinator of the program. “This year we plan to provide Christmas resources to 365 families. Throughout this season, we will share the blessings with so many people in our community.”
Wylie Way Christmas is similar to other holiday gift-giving programs. At registration, children are asked what three gifts they would like. A gift tag is created, with the recipient’s gender and age along with the wish list. Siblings are coded so that they end up together. The tags are then distributed to Wylie ISD campuses where they are selected and fulfilled.
If you’d like to make a tax-deductible donation, click the button below. We would absolutely designate this donation strictly to the purchase of items that children have requested whose tags were either not returned or were not adopted.
Thank you for your generosity and the spirit of taking care of one another…the WYLIE WAY!
