Mrs. Robin Best

Hello, and welcome back!  I hope you've all had a wonderful, fun-filled, relaxing summer.  I am THRILLED to be your child's 8th Grade Social Studies teacher this year!  This will be my seventh year at McMillan Junior High.  McMillan is my home away from home.  We truly are a family here and care deeply about "our kids" and their success. I'd like to take this opportunity to share a bit about myself and my philosophy of education.  I have been married to my wonderful husband, Bryan, for almost 18 years.  We have one fur-baby, Ash, who keeps us laughing and on our toes!  One of the many things my husband and I have in common is our love and appreciation of education!  I am a firm believer that education is the key to everything in life.  In fact, my motto is YOU NEVER STOP LEARNING!  I look forward to seeing my students each and every day and truly hope they discover a passion for learning and a sense of belonging while in my classroom.  Being the first in my family to ever attend college, and working to overcome struggles with dyslexia throughout my life, I understand that every child CAN learn, albeit in different ways.  My goal each day is to ensure that every child realizes their potential by instilling confidence through a safe, energetic and inclusive classroom environment.  Through differentiation, extension of learning objectives, and mutual respect, I promise to help my students achieve their goals both inside and outside of my classroom.  I take the Wylie Way to heart and will always strive to help my students excel.

I completed my undergraduate work at the University of Texas at Dallas and my graduate work at Amberton University.  I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Crime and Justice Studies, and a Master of Arts in School Counseling.  My certifications include all core subjects grades 4-8, ESL supplemental, and K-12 School Counseling.  I serve on the leadership team here at McMillan as an Academic Team Leader.  Through collaboration and constant communication, I assist my academic team in identifying areas in which we can support our students.  I have the privilege of working with the best teachers, administrators, parents, and students in the state of Texas!  Teaching is truly a work of heart, and although I work with many who are deserving of the honor, I was humbled to be chosen as the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year for the McMillan Junior High campus.

We are McMillan, and we are in this together!  This is going to be an amazing year, and I am honored to be your teacher.
