Created by Wylie ISD Technology Instructional Mentor, Richard James; this
page will give you instructions if you want to have students go online to
research a topic or to just see what’s there but you don’t want them
wandering around. Try this tool to keep them on the proper web pages. AND
you don’t have to print anything! (E, S)

Federal Holidays Webquest
A relatively simple but well-developed
webquest for middle school students.
There are two main tasks: 1) students
will teach their class about an
existing federal holiday by creating a
PowerPoint presentation; and 2)
student teams will imagine a new
holiday that represents the spirit of
America and then write a persuasive
argument which will be supported by
either a poster or a postage stamp in
order to convince the class that their
idea is the best one. Includes links
to all the required sites, a teacher
guide, and even a voting ballot. (E)

The
Lone Star Dilemma - a web quest
This site uses technology combined with history to catch the attention
of the student. Students assume the role of a Mexican rancher, Steve
Austin (founder of the Austin colonies), Davy Crockett, or other
people that were living in Texas in 1836. Their task is to determine
the answers to these questions: Do the American settlers have the
right to take Texas away from Mexico? Should Congress consider
annexing Texas as a part of the U.S.? (E - middle school)

Three great programs or they will also design a program specifically for
your needs upon request.
The Gadget Show for grades 2-6. Hands on lesson on what makes
things work. Students disassemble things like "the happy
crab" wind up toy and chattering teeth to see what's inside and
understand how they operate. They then move on to larger examples
and talk about different types of energy.
The Dot Com/Dot Dash Show for grades 2-10. This is a history
of technology. They cover everything from the telegraph to the
internet.
The Surgical Suite Show for high school students. This 2 1/2
- 3 hour show is a live broadcast from a real operating room with real
doctors doing a real heart by-pass surgery on a real patient. The
doctors explain what they're doing and take questions from the students
while actually performing surgery. While this is not for the
faint at heart, it is done in a a professional manner and in good taste.
We are told there has never been a patient with any serious complication
during one of these live broadcasts. However, they do have the
ability to stop broadcasting immediately in the event of any unforeseen
circumstance. (E, S)

and well-being of children.
CWKN
is the first company in the nation

Kids talk about violence in the
schools, the pressure to use
drugs, the pressure to have sex,
the chaos of divorce and the fear
of failing in school. Parents
listen to kids defining the
