Proficiency Requirements

New for 2003-2004!

Beginning in the Fall of 2003, trainees will be able to test out of several courses offered by the Instructional Technology department.  Below is a list of the skills that will be tested in a Proficiency Session.  As more tests are created, the objectives covered will be added to this website.

The sessions will be facilitated by either the TIMs, Adtechs or someone from the Instructional Technology department, and at various times to be announced.  However, the facilitator(s) will not score the tests, only report the results.  The final decision to award or deny credit will be determined by the Instructional Technology department. To test out of a class, trainees must score a 90% or higher.  Upon successful completion of a proficiency test, participants will be awarded
3 hours credit for the course for which they were tested.

POLICIES

Proficiency Nights are from 4:15-6:45 p.m.  Labs will stay open till 7:15 if needed; no participants will be allowed in after 6:45.

  1. The proficiency session will be comprised of two parts:

    • Independent exercise where participants will follow a written set of instructions to show their skills, and a

    • Demonstration Exercise which will be monitored and scored by the facilitator of the session.

  2. Teachers may test out of 3-hour credit courses (such as Word or PowerPoint, as they become available) and non-3 hour courses (currently only ClassWorks Gold and Basic Web Page Development) at designated district-wide, scheduled testing times.  These testing times will be made public and teachers must register through Inlinea. Only specific courses will be available on Proficiency Nights.

  3. District-wide testing times will be after school on Tuesdays, starting at 4:15, the same as existing technology training times, since this is the time designated for district initiatives.

  4. An exception to this may be if a TIM/Adtech/Joel offers a proficiency time during the day for a single campus only. Remember, at this time this would only occur with ClassWorks Gold or Basic Web Page Development. Sheri Stiles may also serve as a facilitator with certain topics.

  5. For the Basic Web Page Development test, teachers must sign the "Staff Web Page Standards" acceptable use policy.
