Welcome to
Curriculum Planner+, Vision 2, by King Lance Rizzo! King thought
it would be cool to call it “Vision” instead of “Version” 2, so we’d
all wonder. Anyway, CP+ provides three major services for teachers in
Wylie:
- Scope and Sequence.
Based on and correlated with the TEKS, the scope and
sequence of the WISD curriculum is easy to access and use as the
foundation of lesson plans and activities.
- Lesson planner. It
provides a place to make your plans and even add attachments.
It will also export your lesson plans to Outlook, with the option of
sending them to Excel and/or Word.
- Activity Bank.
Whether brand new or a veteran teacher, CP+ offers an amazing list
of TEK-correlated activities for your dining pleasure.

II. THE
LOOK
Pictures.
First of all, it’s pretty cool, don’t you think? You’ll notice
some really nice pictures that are randomly placed there for your
edification (secret: if you move your mouse onto them, a little
caption will be displayed). Also, what DOES “edification” mean?
My preacher always says that.

Example of CP+

|
 |
CP+ is
generally made up of two windows: the Explorer Bar on the
left and the larger, Right Pane on the right. See
Figure 2 below. |
|
Personalized. You may notice that this CP+ is much more
personalized. Not only does it say “My CP+” and “Joel’s CP+” which
could make you feel pretty touchy feely and you might suddenly hug
strangers and sing The More We Get Together while holding hands
around a campfire. But it also will display specific courses that
you enter into your schedule. No more clicking through the district
tree of courses to find yours, unless you want to. If you do want
to, you can still do that by clicking WISD Curriculum.

Some friendly advice: the WISD
TEKS-Corrolated Objectives are at the core of CP+. Practically
all work done in CP+—from lesson plans to activities—all begin with
the objectives created by educators in Wylie ISD. Keep this in
mind you ask yourself: “Okay, where do I start to ...” |

Setting Up Your Schedule
Setting up your schedule is so much easier with Vision 2. Check out
Figure 2. There is a wizard which will guide you through the
steps of setting up your schedule, or you can click the “jelly tabs” at
the top to move at your own pace.
NOTE
Should you ever need to redo your
schedule, you will have to reset your lesson planner
and click Setup Schedule.

- In the Explorer Bar, click Setup Schedule.
- In
the Right Pane the 3-Step Setup will appear, with each of the steps
delineated, and well as the jelly tabs at the top. Since Lance
went to all the trouble of writing the directions, and also providing us
the jelly button, we’ll use that. Select

Scenario
#1: “But Joel, what if I teach the multiple courses at the
same time, on different days?”
Answer #1: Hey, that’s cool. CP+ Vision 2 is your friend. You
can add courses to your schedule at the same time. For
example, let’s say you teach Science and Social Studies at 10:00
a.m. on Wednesdays. Simply add a Science class at 10:00
and another class—Social Studies—at 10:00 a.m. When you
export these to your Outlook calendar, they will appear
side-by-side. They might even sing, The More We Get
Together. Then everyone can hug and sway. |

- Select Day Type field. Click the drop-down
button (if needed) to select the appropriate day type. In most
cases, only the high school teachers will need to use this.
- Schedule for Day Type area: Whatever is
here, be it “Regular Day,” “A-Day,” “B-Day,” or other—that is what
your subsequent selections will go under.
- PRE-K TO 4TH GRADE TEACHERS. Due to the great
amount of flexibility needed for scheduling, a template is not
provided for these teachers.
- Select the Start and End times by
clicking the drop-down buttons. The choices are in 5-minute
increments: if they’re off by a couple of minutes, just chill with
it.
- Click the drop-down and make your selections under Select
Course.
- AFTER EACH COURSE, CLICK add. You will see
your choices listed below.
- Delete your choices by clicking Remove.

Scenario
#2: "But Funny-Looking Man with Long Legs, what if I teach
400 things at the same time everyday?"
Answer #2: I worked with a teacher who had
3 preps in the morning and 3 in the p.m. All 3 were taught
simultaneously in each period of the day. We decided—with
principal approval—to focus on the preps rather than the actual
name of the classes, since all classes were a mix of the preps
anyway. We made 3 “periods” in the morning and each would
hold a prep, and did the same for the afternoon. Thus, we
weren’t as focused on the name of the period as we were on
providing a location to display each lesson preparation. |
|
- GRADE 5-12 TEACHERS. Okay, we’ll
pretend you have more structure, so you guys have a template
available. You can manually put in the times as the Pre-K to 4
teachers, or you can use the template for your school.
- Click the blue, jelly use template
button.
- A new window will appear: the CP+
Template. There is a School Template field with a
drop-down button. Click the drop-down and select the
appropriate choice.
- The bell schedule
(provided
by your
principal)
is displayed. Just click the drop-down buttons and select your times
and courses.
|
 |
Please notice that
your conference period is NOT listed and the specific time isn’t
either. We’re concerned about what you’re teaching more than filling
in all the time periods of the day. |
- When you are finished, click save.
- The template window will disappear and you
will return to the normal CP+ interface.
- Your schedule (as well as the ability to
Remove any part of it) is displayed. The courses
you’ve
chosen are visible in the Explorer Bar to the left. Homey, you’re
through.

NOTE: You cannot
change your schedule if you have put ANYTHING in your lesson planner.
You must reset your lesson planner. |
