The Dyslexic Brain“When you think of things, you sometimes find out that a thing which seemed very thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it!” - Winnie the Pooh
fMRI Research Findings
There is a neural signature for dyslexia (a disruption in the posterior reading systems)
Explicit intervention which improves decoding and fluency also increases brain activity
Older dyslexic readers activate more brain systems (compensation occurs)
There is a correlation between memory, fluency, and single word decoding in the areas affected
“I do remember, only Pooh doesn’t very well, so that’s why he likes having it told to him again. Because then it’s a real story and not just remembering.” - Christopher Robin
