For the 2016 school year, all 9th, 10th and 11th students will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. There is no need to register. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Approximately 3.5 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT each year. The scores from the PSAT/NMSQT are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The PSAT is also beneficial in preparing to take the SAT. Created by the College Board, the SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The exam provides colleges with one common criterion that can be used to compare all applicants. However, it is just one factor in the admissions decision. You can learn more about the benefits of taking the PSAT by reading this flyer.
Students can get individualized PSAT/SAT practice: https://www.khanacademy.org/sat and have the opportunity to attend in person PSAT prep sessions during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays and SAT prep sessions at the Wylie ISD Educational Service Center (administration building). For more information, including prep session dates, times and locations, please see the flyers below.
