Dear Smith Parents,

  The staff at Smith Elementary would like to thank you for the opportunity of participating in the education of your child.  In order to ensure that students receive maximum instruction time in their classroom, we are implementing a new tardy policy this year.

 School begins promptly at 7:45 a.m. each day for all grades.   Students arriving after that time will receive a tardy citation that will be sent home with your child the day the tardy occurs.  When this happens, please take a moment to review the form with your child, talk about how important it is to be on time, then sign and return it to school the next day.  We do understand that tardies occur due to circumstances not under your control.  If this happens, please contact the office and we will take this into consideration when assigning consequences.

 Parents, please be aware that this policy is also in effect on Bulldog Boogie days.  Since Bulldog Boogie is during school hours, students are still expected to be here ready to begin school at 7:45 a.m.  For security reasons, if you child arrives after that time they will be asked to wait in the Library until Bulldog Boogie is completed.  Tardy students will be allowed to attend Bulldog Boogie only if their parents stay with them.  These children will be picked up by their teachers on the way back to the classroom.     

Again, our goal is to cut down the amount of time students are out of the classroom and missing out on important instruction time.  Thank you for your assistance in making Smith, “the very best place to be”!

Spanish Version of Tardy Policy

Queridos Padres de Dodd,

 El personal de la Escuela Primaria Smith quiere agradecerle por la oportunidad de participar en la educación de su hijo/a. Para que podamos asegurarnos de que cada estudiante reciba el máximo tiempo de instrucción en el salón, estamos implementando una nueva póliza de tardanza para este año.

 La escuela empieza a las 7:45 a.m. cada día para todos los grados. Los estudiantes que leguen después de esa hora recibirán una nota de tardanza  que será enviada a la casa en la tarde del mismo día que ocurrió la tardanza. Cuando esto suceda, por favor tómese un momento para revisar dicha forma con su hijo/a, hablen sobre la importancia de llegar a tiempo a la escuela y fírmela y regrésela a la escuela al día siguiente. Comprendemos que en ocasiones las tardanzas suceden debido a circunstancias fuera de nuestro control. Si esto sucede, por favor comuníquese con la oficina y tomaremos esto en consideración cuando asignemos las consecuencias.

 Padres, por favor estén concientes que esta póliza también esta en efecto en los días Bulldog Boogie. Debido a que Bulldog Boogie se lleva acabo durante las horas escolares, se espera que los estudiantes lleguen a la escuela a tiempo para cuando las clases empiezan a las 7:45 a.m. Por razones de seguridad, si su hijo/a llega a la escuela después de esa hora se le pedirá que espere en la Librería hasta que Bulldog Boogie se termine. Los estudiantes que lleguen tarde se les permitirán que asistan a Bulldog Boogie solamente si sus padres están con ellos. Dichos alumnos se irán con su maestra/o cuando vayan de regreso a su salón.

 Nuevamente, nuestra meta es recortar la cantidad de tiempo que los estudiantes están fuera del salón de clases y que no se pierdan de tiempo de instrucción tan importante. Gracias por su ayuda para lograr que Smith, “sea el mejor lugar”
