Wylie graduate earns national FFA honor Wylie High School graduate Jennifer Cunningham was named the national winner of the Home and/or Community Development-Entrepreneurship/Placement Proficiency award program at the 82nd National FFA Convention held October 21-24 in Indianapolis, IN.
As president of the Wylie FFA chapter, Jennifer developed a feeder pig project during her senior year. She and other FFA students took donated feeder hogs, raised them to slaughter weight and then donated 100 percent of the meat back to the Wylie Christian Care Center. During the 2008-2009 school year, the Wylie chapter was able to donate 1100 pounds of meat through the program. In addition, she also led her chapter members through a canned food drive, Christmas caroling at the local nursing home and volunteering at special community events.
Jennifer is currently attending Iowa State University where she is studying Animal Science. She is the daughter of Troy and Jayne Cunningham.
The proficiency awards recognize FFA members who excelled as agricultural entrepreneurs, employees, or volunteers while they gained hands-on career experience. Home and/or Community Development-Entrepreneurship/Placement is one of 47 FFA proficiency award categories offered at local, state and national levels. It is sponsored by Carhartt, Inc. as a special project for the National FFA Foundations.
