Wylie ISD Bond Review Committee

The Wylie ISD Bond Review Committee met for the first time on Monday, October 19, prior to the regular meeting of the WISD Board of Trustees. Brian Miller, WISD Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations, chaired the session and went over the responsibilities of the group and individuals in it.

Members will attend at least four meetings per year to go over information regarding current and upcoming bond projects.  Their first information packet concerned Elementary #10 which will begin construction in the next few weeks.  It is the last campus to be built from 2004 Bond monies.  Committee members saw the bid results for concrete and steel for the Elementary #10 project.

Between them, the concrete and steel bids came in approximately $600,000 below budget from the figures used for the last elementary campus which was Whitt Elementary some 28 months ago.  Officials attribute the figures to the continuing economic downturn which has made new construction less costly.

During the session committee members drew for either one, two or three-year terms as part of the group.  Terms will allow for the committee to have new members but also allow for experienced members to always be part of the group.

Before closing the session, members heard from Jerry Gallagher regarding the construction management process in building.  His company Gallagher Construction serves in that capacity for WISD.  Bob Graham of PBK Architects also spoke briefly; both men will be preparing materials for the committee during the next year.

The next scheduled meeting of the Bond Review Committee is February 28, 2010.

Members of the bond review committee are: Michiel Arrington, Bill Baumbach, Ben Brown, Traci Cohen, Diane Culver, Sharon Dowdy, James Fischer, Doug House, Jean Ann Jacobs, Larry Johnson, Susie Lindberg, Fred McCasland, John Mondy, Allen Morris, Deonna Osborn, Tanisha Owens, Michael PeCoy, Mike Phillips, Mark Robinson, Chris Seely, Cliff Strong, Ken Swayze, Choya Tapp,Richard Vaughn, Alicia White, Marty Williams, Teniqua Williams and Joe Yarbrough.
