WISD students raise $20,000 for American Heart Association

Draper "Hoopsters for Heart"

The American Heart Association (AHA) recently released a preliminary total in contributions by Wylie ISD staff and students.  To date, the school district has raised more than $20,000 for the association to use in its fight against heart disease and will exceed that amount as the few final campuses turn in their results.

Students raised the funds through participating in marathon programs including “Hoops for Heart” and “Jump Rope for Heart.”  In turn, the students earn a percentage that is given back to the school.  Raising $3,495.60, Draper Intermediate received $300 which it will use to purchase physical education equipment.

Ryan Stege, Youth Market Director for AHA, praised the efforts of all Wylie ISD students who participated and worked so hard.  “At the AHA we say that for every $50, we count that as one life saved!” comments Mr. Stege.  “For the district of Wylie to have saved more than 400 lives is something to be extremely proud of.”
