Mary Nelle McClendon memorial leaf dedicated

In a special presentation held at the education service center, the Wylie ISD Education Foundation (WEF) honored Mary Nelle McClendon by adding a leaf in her memory to the Tibbals Tree of Honor and Knowledge. 

Mary Nelle’s husband, Ronnie, placed the leaf on the tree with the help of WEF Board Member Mike Whitcomb.  Close family members and friends gathered to pay tribute to her including co-workers from Wylie ISD.  Mary Nelle retired from the district in November 2006 as the director of Human Resources.  She lost her battle to cancer in October of 2007.

The McClendon family is also establishing a scholarship in her memory which will be awarded annually to a Wylie High or Wylie East High graduate pursuing a career in education.  The education foundation will manage the scholarship once it reaches endowment level.
