Wylie ISD TAKS scores successful Wylie ISD students experienced significant academic success in 2007-2008 as revealed by the state’s recently released accountability rating.
The district saw percent increases in test scores in three out of the five tested areas. Improvements occurred in the content areas of Reading/English Language Arts, Math and Science. “Our students and faculty did an amazing job of focusing on science this year, and the district saw a minimum 6% increase in every student group in science,” said Superintendent H. John Fuller. “Staff members are using individual student data to help our young people to succeed.”
Two WISD elementary campuses, Groves and Smith received the highest rating of Exemplary. All three of the intermediate campuses, Harrison, Davis and Draper, received Recognized ratings. Hartman, Birmingham, Dodd, Cox and Tibbals Elementary schools also received Recognized ratings. The district received an Academically Acceptable rating, as did Wylie High School, Wylie East High School, Special Programs Center, Burnett Junior High, McMillan Junior High, Cooper Junior High and Akin Elementary.
Plans are already taking shape to increase student learning for next year’s TAKS assessment. Once again data will be the tool for finding trends, weaknesses and individual students who need significant assistance in specific areas of the curriculum.
